Mesothelioma

Mesothelioma is a form of cancer caused by asbestos exposure. Mesothelioma is not lung cancer. It is, however, a specific type of cancer that affects the lining around the lungs, abdomen or heart.
Each year are diagnosed with mesothelioma between 2,500 and 3,000 men and women in the U.S.. Asbestos is the main cause of mesothelioma. It is an aggressive cancer that can be difficult to treat. Often, cancer décados appears only after the person was exposed to asbestos. Exposure to asbestos, even in small amounts, can cause mesothelioma.
Fortunately, researchers and physicians continue to make new breakthroughs and discoveries in relation to mesothelioma.
Mesothelioma is a tumor derived from mesothelial cells, ie the cells lining the pleural cavity (serous membrane covering the lungs), peritoneal (serous membrane lining the abdominal cavity) or the pericardium (lining the heart).
Often associated with exposure to asbestos.
